Abstract: By investigating the U. S.-Pakistan Relations during the Reign of Ayub Khan, this essay attempts to explain the subtlety and complexity of the relations between these two nations. With this study, I hope we can understand better the U. S. -Pakistan Relations and, to some degree, predict its future trend.Ayub Khan is the first military ruler in Pakistan. He had governed Pakistan for more than ten years, from 1958 to 1969. After the honeymoon of the U. S.-Pakistan Relations in 1954, it witnessed the Sino-Indian boundary conflict and the second Indo-Pakistan war. The two allies in this decade experienced a period from friendliness to estrangement and then warmness again. These two countries have conflicts in security issues, however, they have common interest in maintaining the regional stability. Although it had met some challenges, the relations between them are kept at a favorable level.By analyzing the evolution of the U. S.-Pakistan relations, I attempt to figure out the deep reason of this change, and find out those most influential factors in these two countries' relations.
