A Study On Qian Qianyi's Compilation Of Lie Chao Shi Ji

As a leading scholar at the end of Ming Dynasty and the beginning of Qing Dynasty, Qian Qianyi had played an important role in the literary world and the political affaires both in Ming and Qing Dynasty. The resent research on Qian Qianyi mainly focuses on two areas as political and literary areas, involving the aspects of book collecting activities, history thoughts, etc. However, the systematic research and application of Qian's Lie Chao Shi Ji, especially that of the bibliographies in Lie Chao Shi Ji is deficient.With the research subject of Lie Chao Shi Ji, this paper mainly probes into its compilation background, regulation, and biographies; meanwhile, this paper introduces Qian's other achievements on historical compilation, summarizes Lie Chao Shi Jfs significance and status in historiography and philology, and concludes Qian's key tenet of his compilation of historical works.Lie Chao Shi Ji is a poetry collection of Ming Dynasty compiled by Qian Qianyi, and its historical value is far beyond other common florilegiums. With the poetry containing Ming Dynasty's literary quotation and history, Lie Chao Shi Ji is regarded as the poetry history, which brilliantly reflects the cultural significance: "to preserve human resources, record the history and express the historical thoughts with their poetry". Compared with other poetry collection of Ming Dynasty, the biographies in Lie Chao Shi Ji are of more historical significance. Preserving abundant and valuable historical materials, these biographies are of great value in historiography. Qian Qianyi had devoted his whole life to the compilation of the annals of history and true history that can be treated as the complement of the official history. Qian compiled Lie Chao Shi Ji to preserve history and reflect history by poetry. That is the key tenet of his compilation of historical works.
