To provide accurate psychological basis to middle-school students for their major choices in admission tests to higher education, to promote the undergraduates in their studies, and to give reasonable measures for administrators of high-education universities and institutes, the research has been done on the discipline-matching of undergraduates and its influence on students' academic performance and development, by methods of interview, questionnaire, literature and case study. The research selects 552 undergraduates from five majors: mathematics, philosophy, arts, architecture and automation, then investigates them by self-made Undergraduates Discipline-matching Questionnaire, and also studies some cases. Finally concludes the following conclusions:(1) There are obvious disciplinary differences in learning styles. The studying in universities and institutes is quite special, since each discipline requires its own distinguishable learning manners.(2) To undergraduates, the relationship between the discipline-matching and the academic performance is positive correlation. In case of higher discipline-matching, student's academic performance is better. On the contrary, lower discipline-matching leads to worse academic performance.(3) To undergraduates, the relationship between the discipline-matching and development is positive correlation. In case that the discipline-matching is higher, the student will be better in their developments, such as interest in discipline, comprehension of discipline, scholarship in school, integrated qualities (testing and scoring), social practice and capabilities. Therefore it is advised that following should be paid attention in education:(1) Before the Grade Three students of high-middle schools make their choice of their majors, one discipline-matching test should be implemented to present them the accurate psychological basis;(2) Education should be in compliance with the learning styles of students, guiding students to enhance advantages and improve disadvantages;(3) Universities should adhere to the development view based on human being, respecting the discipline-matching of students, opening a gate to discipline transfer, allow students to make the second choice of discipline, and matching the learning styles with disciplines - thus it will bring forth perfect learning performances, promote the developments of students and obtain the greatest returns from education sources.
