Studying The Eupthemism In "Zhan Guo Ce"

The paper takes the basic euphemism theory as the guiding theory , and takes "Zhan Guo Ce" compiled by Liu Xiang in the Western Han Dynasty as the studying object. The author collects and chooses the euphemism examples in "Zhan Guo Ce" Then classifies and studies them.The paper includes five parts :The first part : introduction .in this part, the author points out the studying object and purpose of this paper ,and analyses the euphemism definition , the history and the actuality of euphemism studying . and points out the problem and poorness in euphemism studying.The second part : range of euphemism, word and phrase euphemism ,sentence euphemism , paragraph euphemism .The third part : the classification of euphemism . The author classifies the euphemism examples in "Zhan Guo Ce" into four big kinds . Euphemism relevant to death , disease , and old age ; euphemism relevant to politics , military and diplomacy ; euphemism relevant to modesty and respect ; euphemism constructed by a set phrase .The forth part : the constructive method of euphemism . The author sums up eleven kinds of constructive methods such as : notify ,subterfuge ,using particle word , double negative , using question sentence , using illegibility of word , citation ,debit ,comparison , using humility and respect .The fifth part : the denotative meaning in the euphemism in "Zhan Guo Ce" Language is interested in culture , they are inseparable . We can say that euphemism is a mirror of national culture to some extent . In this part , the author mainly concludes four opinions : the opinion of ceremony ; the opinion of middlebrow and harmonious ; tabu culture and tending towards luck and avoiding fierce ; traditional opinion of direction .
