A Study On Contemporary Catchwords

Catchwords refer to those widely and quickly spread words and expressions in a certain period, area or group, which, from a certain point of view, express people's values, ideas and states of mind and reflect social phenomena. The contemporary catchwords are those most popular and fashionable part of catch words.To track the popular words used in a society is very important and valuable. Firstly it can reflect the development track and direction of the society, since their socio-cultural features. Secondly catchwords are part of the language, that's to say that they have great value for lexical study of modern Chinese.This thesis can be separated into five parts, which is trying to study the definition, categories, features, backgrounds and tendencies of the contemporary catchwords separately. We hope that these studies could make some contributions to the construction of Chinese lexicon.
