Making documentary is a very complicated thinking-course that constructed under the developed frame of social politics, economic and culture. People pay attention to documentary, for it is often regarded as "high level culture" in movie and television, and also regarded as a mark that can measure a state or a television organization making documentaries. We could observe ourselves, recognize the world and remain the history according on it.Value reconstructed, is the result of value election, it is on value judging, electing and recreating for the social and human beings. Not only the documentary could record the outside appearance of living, but also could break though the appearance, find the sense of living. Experts in the world often regard the famous film made by Robert Flaherty in 1922 as the beginning of documentary theory research. After that, people never stop making documentary, and also never stop to make a detailed inquiry about the documentary theory, "it almost had a debate each per decade". We can say that the development history of documentary is the reconstruction history of documentary value.The beginning of study to Chinese documentary was relatively late. It almost was the politics culture reconstruction history before 1978: Accepting the "propaganda thought" from the Soviet mode, considering "documentary is a powerful teaching tool to the mass". With the reform and open, some foreign culture thought start to run up in China, and the outside theory of documentary began to lead into china. By this time, the Chinese documentary theory made a slowly step. After 1990, the Chinese mass culture began to come to the main road, the production and consumption of culture, and the Chinese television culture trend brightly to popular characteristic. And this characteristic had largely affected the content and forms of the mass communication, and also affected the documentary making. As a result, the documentary began to pay attention to mass topic of conversation, some documentary about it began to get a award in the international festivals. But what's puzzled us most is that those documentaries had a low audium-rate in China, and its influence seems to appear quiet comparing to its racket in festival, some couldn't go on air even more.At the mean time, the real theory that helps the Chinese documentary making is also absence, the research field is relatively narrow, ignoring the detailed inquiry in socialism, humanism and cultural etc. most theory articles that we can see are the summaries in experience or comments on some detail works when needed. Sometimes it was a commercial speculator, lack of real theory contribution. The theory of documentary is so small weak and absent that the commercial and vulgar works were full in this field. What kinds of documentary should we need? How to develop the China documentaries? All those questions were connected with the value reconstruction of documentaries.This study will stand on the reality research and analysis, stand on the local native thought, combined with the background of Chinese history condition in social transfering, and television industrialization and group and the affection of WTO in recent years, pay attention with source of the Chinese television frame, economic and culture, my dissertation attempts to reach the deep level to the value reconstruction of documentary:Firstly, this research will pay attention to the changes of the development of documentary in the world, probe into the last reason of affecting documentary. By combing the history of home and abroad documentaries in recent decades, combined with the dilemma in documentary making in China, and try to do good to the documentary making and value reconstruction.Secondly, this research will point out directly the weakening and disappearing in news system, culture and humanities, overcome the shortages affecting by the other television commercial and vulgar forms, and make the documentary take on the responsibilities to record the history.It 's a principle that this study would stand on Chinese system of politics and culture, and from the eyes of practitioner, The whole body will divided in five sections:The preface will give the origin of this study, and the general introduction of the beginning of the study of documentary theory, and its three stages in history. Later the article would point out the development of documentaries in China, the achievements and insufficients.The first Chapter will discuss the orbit of the development of documentary in the world from top to bottom. After comparing the several concepts and wordings in history, I point outthe four stages that had constructed documentary value in early history is that from the early films of brother's Lumiere, later was Robert Flaherty "recording the edge history "in 1922, and then was Dzhiga Vertov "serving for the reality fighting." Later was John Grierson "a useful tool that affected the public opinion", and then was to analysis the important sects in the world later. The new innovations are not stop at the combing in the vertical time, but combining widely with technical development of the film and television in the world, and the transfers from it to the esthetic.The second Chapter will discuss the documentary in China, the glory and shortage is the emphasis of this section. By analyzing the documentary which had got an award in China, I will point out the several documentary men and their works, and analysis the documentary dilemma in China. Statistics analysis and criticize research is the characteristic of the section.The third Chapter will discuss the documentary value reconstruction. In this section, I will expound the value reconstruction from the three parts of esthetics, culture and media audience. In esthetics, the emphasis is study the difference of mid-west nations in appreciation of beauty, study the three essential factors of documentary: reality, tale and humanities. In culture, the emphasis is study the five forms of documentary value reconstruction. In media audience, the emphasis is study several principles that serve people from the angle of view of choice and communication.This is the emphasis of whole study, that research from esthetics, culture and media audience, and it is the forward position of studying documentary. Esthetics research include the psychology of appreciation of the beauty, the analysis and reconstruction of traditional esthetic forms etc. Culture research put forward clearly five forms after value reconstruction. Media audience of the study even put forward the fatal questions in documentary making in China now , which is ignoring the media audience and media market.The end would discuss the effect of the documentary in the world to the development of the social while the Chinese documentary has a tendency of weakening and edging. The author gives some macro-consideration and provides several concrete suggestions for the Chinese documentary making in the end.
