Functional stylistics is an applied science further developed from SystemicFunctional Linguistics, in which semantic level (Ideational, Interpersonal and Textualfunctions) is the realization of social semiotic level (Field, Tenor and Mode) and in turn,lexico-grammatical level (Transitivity, Mood and Theme-Rheme systems) is therealization of the semantic level. By writing a sales promotion letter, the writer seeks toget the attention and arouse the interest and finally invite actions of the readerconvincing him that the goods or service the company is to supply can benefit him.Therefore, in the case of sales promotion letters, the reader's inner world should alwaysbe taken into consideration. Within the theoretical framework of functional linguistics,this thesis further takes up factors of reader's psychology to probe into the stylisticfeatures of English sales promotion letters, the analysis of which also correspondinglyreflects language metafunctions and its specific situational contexts of these letters.
