As a part of the society,businessmen played the role of linking production and consumption,despite their ages of Different Judgments in, but its role in society could not be denied. Thestatus of ancient Chinese businessmen was lowing, and in many ways they were restricted.Itwas not inconsistent with their economic strength.In the Tang and Song dynasty, commodity economy improved the status of businessmen,mainly reflecting in changes of their domicile, clothing and tools when they go on a journeyand the right to be government officials. Gradually, businessmen and others were of equalstatus, businessmen's children also could become officials through civilexaminations.Compared with the previous it was a great progress.In the long feudal society, the agricultural economy has always been dominant, but thedevelopment of commodity economy, will inevitably leaded to changes in the status of peopleof different social. With the purpose to enhance their own political status, businessmen wouldlike to become officials urgently.The methods included that: Made friends with officials,mademarriages with officials and bought a official with money etc.In the Tang and Song dynasty, overseas trade was developed, the government alsoattached great importance to trade and take positive measures to attract foreignbusinessmen.Moreover government practiced very generous policy.It was closely related inthe political, economic considerations for government.In ancient Chinese society,rulers implemented the policy of 'make importance toagriculture and curb business'.The increase of the businessmen's status was related to theimprovement of Commodity Economy and changes in people's attitudes.
