With the prevalence of post-colonist theories in cultural studies, the research of hybridization has attracted increasing attention in the academic community, especially in the realm of translation studies as well as social sciences. So far, many scholars have initiated the research in hybridization translation and achieved some remarkable accomplishments. But in all, the results are far from being satisfactory. This thesis is an attempt in this regard. The thesis begins with the introduction to translation studies in the last decades through the perspective of paradigm shift. By discussing two opposite strategies of cultural translation, namely, domestication and foreignization, it further explores the fusing of the two: hybridization strategy, a result of paradigm shift. Based on this, its author makes a detailed interpretation of hybridization and a clear comparison between traditional English and Chinese poetry, in order to prove that hybridization is a best choice in the imagist translation of classical Chinese poetry. Last but not least, the thesis focuses on various methods/ techniques regarding hybridization strategy in the imagist translation practice. Yet, all these researches are only tentative, leaving much room for improvement. It is also hoped that besides the author's studies more insights concerning hybridization translation are being on the way.
