Since the birth of huaju (spoken drama) in China in the early 20th century, drama translation has played an important role in Chinese theatrical circles. However, it is now trapped in a dilemma: on the one hand, translated dramas are greatly in need on the Chinese stage due to the lack of good original drama texts, but on the other hand, their reception is mainly dissatisfied. So how to change this dilemma is an urgent question for both scholars in the theatrical field and drama translators as well. The author of this thesis tends to probe into the process of drama translation from the perspective of reception theory, and analyzes the elements that are important for the audience's reception in drama translation. Then the author will render some suggestions to contemporary drama translation practice in China, hoping that they may give some enlightenment to the final resolution to this dilemma.
