The Study On The Tone Adverb Lian And Its Related Structure In Qiyang Dialect

There is a special usage about the word Lian in Xiang dialect. That is used in the negative sentence, playing a role of strengthening the negative tone, which is an universal usage of the word Lian in Xiang dialect. In Qiyang dialect, Lian not only can be used in the negative sentence like other Xiang dialects, strengthening the negative tone, but also can be used in positive sentence, strengthening the positive tone. In this thesis, we study the tone adverb Lian from the perspective of The synchronic and diachronic, carrying on many dimension, all-directions research,trying to give a sufficient observation,description, explanation.The thesis is subdivided into six parts:Introduction We explain the reason of studying the word Lian in Qiyang dialect, outline the geographical location and historical overview of Qiyang county, introduce the research status of the word Lian in Xiang dialect, the significance of this study and language theories and methods applied in this thesis.Chapter 1 The adverb Lian category defined. In this chapter we illustrate Lian is a tone adverb from the perspective of grammatical meaning and syntax functional of the word Lian .Chapter 2 A analysis on the tone adverb Lian organizational structure. We analyze the three structures of the word Lian used in negative sentence in detail, that is, "Lian+negative word+NP " structure, "Lian + negative word +VP " structure, "Lian+ negative word +AP " structure. Finally, we also analyze the tone adverb Lian and its usage used in positive sentence in Qiyang dialect.Chapter 3 A semantic and pragmatic analysis on the tone adverb Lian.In this chapter, we analyze the lexical meaning, grammaticalmeaning and pragmatic meaning of the word Lian. Especially, analyze its pragmatic functions.Chapter 4 The comparison betweetn Liandou structure and Lianbu structure. In this chapter, by the comparison betweetn Liandou structure and Lianbu structure from the syntax, semantics, pragmatics and the focus of sentence, we think that they are two completely different structures.Chapter 5 The process of grammaticalization of the word Lian. In this chapter, we illustrate the process of grammaticalization of the word Lian in Liandou structure and Lianbu structure from the perspective of the diachronic. We prove that the two word with different nature are evolving along different trace.Chapter 6 Conclusion. In this chapter, we summarize the tone adverb Lian study of the full text simply. From the synchronic perspective, we give a detailed description and analysis to the tone adverb Lian in Qiyang dialect from the syntax, semantics and pragmatics;From the diachronic perspective, we analyze the grammaticalization of the word Lian as the particle in Liandou structure and as the tone adverb in Lianbu structure.
