Based on careful reading, this paper focuses on the regressive intent of Xu Dishan's writing. The author attempts to explore the implication of Xu Dishan's writing, uncover its poetic surpassing intent in perspective of the traditional Chinese culture, referring to the terms and category of western aesthetics. Because of the charming "poetic property" of Xu Dishan's writing, the paper involves lots of emotional factors, aiming at the proper combination of logos and savvy, for fear that the poetry would be destroyed by a rigid discussion. This paper is made up of introduction, main part and conclusion. The introduction introduces briefly the general features and researching trends of Xu Dishan's writing, and defines some terms such as "regress" and "intent". The main part is divided further into four chapters. Chapter One is a spiritual resume of Xu Dishan's writing based on his biography and works, with a purpose of seeking the realistic and psychological reasons for its regressive intent. Through an analysis of Xu Dishan's life, from traveling away from home to returning home spiritually, the author points out that the regressive intent is the compromise of realistic world and poetic property and the result of a painful soul. Chapter Two analyses three forms of the regressive intent of Xu Dishan's writing: returning to the nature, returning to true humanity, returning to flexility of human beings. It is proved that the regressive intent of Xu Dishan's writing is in fact a retrospect to original life. Chapter Three analyses the regressive intent of Xu Dishan's writing in perspective of poetry to show that the regress is returning to a poetic understanding of the word and the life. Xu Dishan's writing aims at leading the division of people's eyes and soul to an aesthetic perspective, and thus gives rise to a perfect, unlimited andtranscending life. Chapter Four explores the traditional origin of the regressive intent of Xu Dishan's writing. Taking Zhuangzi's "extreme morality" and Chanzong's "original appearance" into consideration, the author points out the implied relationship between them. The regressive intent of Xu Dishan's writing is proved to be the essence of poetic life and the illusive rewriting of Zhuangzi and Chanzong's idea. The conclusion summaries the whole paper and points out the possible extended study and its significance.
