As a great German poet, R. M. Rilke's world-wide influence extends gradually along with modernist humanities trend of thought. Since he was introduced to China by the famous poet— Feng Zhi in the 1930s, Rilke could be regarded as a long-lasting myth in the Chinese new poetry. He provided the Chinese poetry with a new reference in the course of its exploration for modernization, and gave impetus to it to move towards the mature stage. With the model of Rilke, Feng Zhi and "Chinese modern poetry" school have gone beyond the age of puberty full of munificent act of lavishing profusely the talent and feeling only by some capital of youth, and entered the contemplating and rich middle age.This thesis intends to make a systematic study on the acceptance of Feng Zhi and "Chinese modern poetry" school towards Rilke, and setting out from the modernization process of Chinese new poetry, seeks for the similarities between their spiritual world. The full thesis is divided into three parts. The first part traces back the introduction and spread of Rilke's works in modern China, and holds that there has been a thread between Rilke and Chinese new poetry since the 1930s, which has never been interrupted. The second part probes into the reasons of alignment of Rilke and Chinese new poetry from the aspects of age characteristic, all kinds of existing problems during the process of its development, and its self-request for further maturity. The third part makes a detailed analysis on Rilke's deep influence on the life and creation of Chinese modern poets, which reflects in a focalized way in personality and spirit, poetrytheme, poetry nature, poetry expressing and so on. The conclusion additionally explains that Rilke's objective and sober poetry style brings Chinese poets solemn and quiet, contemplating philosophic tendency, making a great change in artistic character and atheistic style of Chinese modern poetry.
