A Preliminary Study On Psychological Behavior Of Terminally Ill Patient In China

Based on collecting and summarizing the existing literature about psychological behaves of terminally ill patient, this study proposed the research problem:What is the psychological behaves of Chinese terminally ill patients ?How to construct the transcendental self-psychological theory about terminally ill patient? On the foundation of generalizing and analyzing the related psychological theory, this research unified the Tibetan Buddhism and the self-perception structure concept of the American psychologist William James, to understanding and instructing the psychological process ,and constructed the self-perception psychological theory that the key concept are matter-self, society-self and spirit-self.It thought the life shoud be through one's being of the matter-self and the society-self and then up to one's being of the spirit-self.During different developing periods of one's life, there are corresponding different development tasks/challenges to overcome and the corresponding being of self-structure (the material self, the social self and spiritual self)to develop in various degrees till to face the last development task — death.The fear about death comes into being because one's self- perception has only developed into I of the material self or social self instead of spiritual self as the core of being, thus all of one's life perceived as narrow, small and limited material self or social self. One can get over fear of death by going through material self and social self up to spiritual self as being. The negative mood and behavior ofterminally ill patient-fear, anger and so on- are the result of suchdeveloping process not completed. This research also unified the content analysis of the Chinese literature on psychological behaves of terminally ill patient with the case study of terminally cancer patients in a tumorhospital of Hunan, the results showed that most Chinese terminally ill patients exist such feeling as fear and angry mood or resentment and behavior such as accepting or denying their death.The study confirmed the fact to construct the self-psychological theory of terminally ill patient.
