The Chinese People's Anti-Japanese Military and Political University (also abbreviated "Kangda") is a high-rank cadre school established in Yan'an by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China during the Anti-Japanese War. As the result of a special time, Kangda underwent three stages. It was founded at the eve of the Anti-Japanese War, culminated in the war, and retired at the end of the war. In those particular circumstances, Kangda had developed a unique system of education which differed greatly from the educational system in areas governed by either Kuomintang or the Japanese invaders. Due to its distinctive education theory and model, Kangda obtainded great achievements in its education practice in the days of revolutional war, and cast far-reaching influences on the education course after the founding of the People's Republic of China. This thesis, presenting the origin, background, and development of Kangda from the historical perspective, analyses its educational system, educational characteristics and historical influences following an inductive manner.Apart from the Introduction and the Conclusion, the main part of this thesis can be divided into five parts:Part One traces the historical roots from two aspects—the early cadre education practice concerned with workers and peasants by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the cadre education practice serving the army and the government in Central Soviet Areas, and analyses the historical background of Kangda.Part Two expounds the three developing stages of Kangda, focusing on the characteristics of its own.Part Three illustrates the educational system and practice from four aspects: running principles, organization system, teaching system and school spirit construction.Part Four discusses the educational characteristics of Kangda according to the aforementioned four aspects.Part Five comments on the significance of Kangda in a full-scale, positively giving rise to the contributions of Kangda to its talents cultivation, theory construction, and experience gaining, while at the same time reflecting on the negative influences of its education model during the Cultural Revolution.
