A Study On The Mental Development Of Caoyu's Writing

Through reading the dramas of Caoyu 's and the monographs on Caoyu's study, the thesis holds that there are some faults in most of these studies .Some scholars divide the mental development of Caoyu's writing into "modern" stage and "cotemporary" stage .Others think it can be divided into three stages. All of the scholars emphasize the different of Caoyu's dramas and the changes of Caoyu's mental, and neglect the internal relations of the dramas of Caoyu's. The thesis holds there are some factors existing in all of Caoyu's dramas. We should attach importance to the factors and regard all the dramas of Caoyu's as a whole.The thesis contains two parts .The first part is the change of Caoyu's self-consciousness .In this section, the thesis primarily analyses the aesthetic perspective, styles, themes of Caoyu's dramas. The second part is the intellectuals in Caoyu's dramas and Caoyu's outlook of them. In this section, the thesis mainly discusses the intellectuals in Caoyu's dramas and Caoyu's complicated mental development which expresses in his dramas. On the basis of these discussions, the thesis holds that Caoyu is not a dramatist that follows the mainstream ideology. On the contrary, he holds the ideology of "The May Fourth" in all of his life. It contains democracy, humanitarianism, freedom, and independence.
