The discovery of Inhibition of Return (IOR)can be derived from the study of AttentionalCueing. In the further study of attentional cueing, a lost of response time on cue-positioncompared with response time on uncue-position was found. This newfound phenomenon wascalled IOR. Experiment of Inhibition of Return (IOR) can be divided into two phases:cue-presentation phase and target-presentation phase. The study selected the undergraduatesas subjects. In the experiment, three boxes were placed on both sides of the central fixation, which be called outside box, center box and inside box. The cue and the target of theexperiment are the blink of the box, and subjects should respond to the target quickly andcorrect. Only the central box was examined in all experiments, and experiments are all 2×3×2 design inner the group. In experiment 1, the effect of the direction of attention incue-presentation phase is examined;in experiment 2, the effect of increasing number oftargets' position and the direction of attention in cue-presentation phase are examined;inorder to examine the influence of the increasing number of the target position on IOR, theincreasing of target position was considered as the factor of between groups which wasanalyzed with the data of two experiments. The result indicates that the effect of theattention's movement direction in cue-presentation phase both appear in two experiments, andit wasn't effected by increasing number of the targets' position;the effect of increasingnumber of the targets' position only decrease the response time of cue-position anduncue-position simultaneously. It shows that a common inhibition at cue-position anduncue-position is cut down, it is different with the effect of the of attention movementdirection in cue-presentation phase on the IOR. There are different mechanisms between theeffect of the attention in cue-presentation phase and intarget-presentationphase.
