Zhang Henshui, as an outstanding great master of popular novel, once caused asensation in Chinese contemporary literary world, and his name is well-known evento women and children in China, and he also attracts attentions of those who doresearch work in literature. But if we compared with his productive and high qualityin his works, we will find that it appears not very symmetric as for the study to him,and this unsymmetrical problem directly leads to a lack to his study both in depth andin full scale. The most obvious example is that there is still no breakdown to the studyof the readability of his novels. The numerous researchers in studying Zhang Henshuihave pointed out that his four novel masterpieces are of great readability, which isadmitted by the author himself as well as numerous readers. But how on earth tounderstand his novels' readability and what are the reasons for his novels' mightytrend in reading which appeared several times in 1920s to 1940s, there is no body whocan give us successful interpretations on them.Therefore, based on specific age, given readers and other persons' research work,this dissertation attempts to make further probe into the readability of his masterpieces.In the first part of the dissertation, the author mainly displays the readability facts ofhis novels, and then explains what the text readability is, which establish the basis forfollowing research;The second part of this dissertation is the main body of the wholedissertation, which starts from different points of view to probe into various reasonsfor his novels' readability, as the effect and its response of literary works are realizedin the course of the reading of the readers, and the readers' expected field of visiontogether with novel version itself should all be the objects of analysis;The third partof the dissertation is mainly about the meditation initiated by the proposition, in it theauthor points out that the history of Chinese contemporary literature which is short ofsufficient comments on Zhang Henshui's works is a kind of incomplete literaturehistory.By doing research in this field, if we can deal with the problem correctly, theresearch field in contemporary literature can be widen, and it's also of greatsignificance in the previously prosperous development of the popular literaturecreation as well as the theory construction of the popular literature discipline.
