This paper makes an analysis of Virginia Woolf s masterpiece To the Lighthouse from a feminism perspective. The first part is a survey of studies on Virginia Woolf and her works from different angles and some of my arguments for further study. The second part is about Virginia Woolf's feminist position in this novel. From the analysis of human relations, I can see that she writes two muted stories of women, in which women are silent and absent. With her androgynous mind she hopes to create a harmonious world in which men and women are in balance. The third part is devoted to the artistic features about this novel. This novel takes the appropriate form, which is adapted to its content. With feminism narratology theory, we study the narrative form of this novel and the gender factor, which influence author's use of this narrative form. Virginia Woolf is the forerunner of feminist criticism, so her works convey her ideas about women writing. To the Lighthouse is a good example of practice of her theory about women and fiction. |
