The thesis is focused on a study of the exploration and fulfillment of Edna's selfhood awakening from a feminist point of view, for the purpose of appreciating the beauty of feminist literature and drawing more concerns of the female situation in family and society whereby such an ideal may be revealed: in a male-dominated society only by a departure from the conventional way of life and the conventional standard of identity can one's true self ever be realized.
