During the two recent decades, commercial prosperity and the ever-increasing foreign investment in Putian & Xianyou have brought in with them numerous labors from outside the district. In the meantime, waves after waves of local people have also ventured into other areas. As one of the consequense, along with the local dialect, mandarin has popped up as an indispensable communication tool. The language teaching in many families undergoes a dramatic shift. Through questionnaire, sample survey, interview, case study and references, this paper, from the perspective of the language -teaching of the local families, purports to offer a solutions to the existing problems of the local students' mandarin-speaking. It also aims to come up with a theoretical and practical basis for promoting mandarin-speaking in both the key-schools in the city and those common schools in the countryside.The survey indicates that language teaching in Puxian families is changing noticeably. In the town, Puxian dialect is no longer the only language in some families so that mandarin becomes the children's mother tongue instead of this local dialect. But this is not the case in the country, where the children's language teaching falls far behind. This is to a large extent due to poor language teaching on the part of the parents, together with unfavorable language environment in the country. The survey also shows that mandarin is not as well spoken in the country as in the town among school students. The is mainly because schools there are surrounded by Puxian dialect, almost all teachers and students being local people. Therefore,it is hard to form a language environment of mandarin-speaking by itself.Based on the above, the author herein put forward the following proposals concerning language teaching in rural families: 1 , Thegovernment should put in greater efforts to promote mandarin-speaking so as to strengthen the consciousness of rural parents; 2 >. The kindergartens in the country could play a significant part in optimizing language teaching environment in families. In addition, the author brings forward some recommendations regarding mandarin-speaking promotion in rural schools: K to form a language environment of mandarin-speaking; 2> to popularize mandarin-speaking among teachers in rural schools; 3 > to suit the remedy to the case of students' learning mandarin.
