At present, the teaching reform of the higher education is focused on two aspects, one is pushing forward the double-language teaching, and the other is spreading the information-technology teaching, especially on the utilization of Internet. Consequently, the general attention of the tutors is drawn upon how to full use of the Internet technology. IT-assisted teaching is based on the organic combination of both information-technology (network-technology) and traditional subject courses. It is a brand new way of tutoring to fulfill the task of teaching utilizing the existing information network but without breaking away from traditional classroom teaching. According to the learning theories of behaviorism and constructivism, this thesis makes a definition of the IT-assisted teaching and constructs the IT-assisted teaching mode which caters to the college English and it also does some analyses of the teaching effect in this brand-new mode through specialized teaching experiment.The thesis is composed of five chapters. Chapter one is the prolegomenon, which includes the backgrounds, current status, the research and the significance of the IT-assisted teaching and the frame of the thesis; In chapter two, it introduces the concept and function of the teaching mode and it also discusses the distinct significance and effect of the organic combination of the information technology and teaching mode; In chapter three, it introduces the theoretical foundation and concept of the IT-assisted teaching concretely. Besides that, it states the function and advantage of the IT-assisted teaching through the comparison with the traditional classroom instruction and network teaching regarding student as the centre. The chapter four and five are the key ones in this thesis: in chapter four, it constructs two kinds of modes for the IT-assisted teaching which is based on several classical and typical English teaching modes; In chapter five, it designs the teaching experiment for the brand-new modes, processes the data drawn from the experiment and achieve the result by the method of Compare Means (Independent-Samples T Test) in mathematical statistics.
