Yuan Jie, a poet as well as a prose writer, lived in the same times with Du Fu and Xiao Yingshi, Li Hua . His writings including poem and prose are primitively simple. In his writings, he showed his careness for people, expressed his concern with the nation in his articles by using realistic literature creation which strong refute magnificient and extravagant style of writing at contemporary. By using writings which are severe and impassioned and close to current affairs, his articles were distinguished from others' and showed excellent originality. Du Fu praised him about his realistic poem content which intervene current and political affairs which opened the movement of New Yue Fu. Even more, he initiated prose movement by his free-style prose. In realistic and wide content, his writings go beyond Xiao Yingshi and Li Hua who lived in the same times with him, and his writings opened the door for the prose movement which was mainly occupied by Han Yu and Liu Zongyuan. This thesis will discuss character of Yuan Jie's poem and prose and its importance and influence on the literature history by analyzing Yuan Jie's literature innovation theory, content of poems and prose, artistic achievement and its influence and so on. It consists of three chapters.The first chapter principally discusses the literature innovation theory, talks about the political complication, many-sided ideology trend character, and Yuan Jie's studying background in it. Mainly discusses his poem theory which is about literary pursuits by his close attention to reality. Further discussed that his poem theory character overstepped the poets in the same times, by analyzing the poet's writings from Qie Zhong Ji complied by him. His views about prose are summarized from his prose writingsThe second chapter principally discusses Yuan Jie's poem writings, stressed on his close attention to the national economy and the people's livelihood, exposure ofthe dark side of society, and his poem writing style and content opened the realistic poem writing.The third chapter principally discusses Yuan Jie's prose writing. Mainly discusses his ideas of moral rebuilding, severe and incisive style of writing which showed strong character of that time, the similarity and difference on prose writing with Xiao Yingshi and Li Hua and the influence he gave Han Yu and Liu Zongyuan.
