| There have been various studies from different perspectives on communicative strategies (CSs). It is believed that many factors may influence the choice of CSs, and among them, personality is highly involved. This study aims at revealing the relationship between the employment of CSs by extroverts and introverts in L2 learning by answering the questions: "Whether extrovert learners use more CSs than introvert learners do?" and "whether there are significant differences in the frequencies of CSs used in each category of CSs by extrovert learners and introvert learners?"In order to answer these questions, the author of this thesis has designed an experiment with 25 subjects. These subjects are the non-English-major sophomores in Northwestern Polytechnical University. After being divided into two groups of introverts and extroverts based on the Introvert-Extrovert Questionnaire, the subjects are videotaped during CET- 4 Oral Test. Then, based on the transcription of the video and the Questionnaire on the Use of CSs given to them immediately after the oral test, CSs are marked out and divided into each category of CSs and then the frequency of CSs in each category is counted out. Last, by using t-test and chi-square test, the correlation between the frequency of CSs employed and personality type is tested.The results reveal that the total frequency of CSs employed demonstrates no difference between the two groups, but introvert learners prefer avoidance strategies whereas extrovert learners tend to use more non-linguistic strategies in L2 communication. Besides, the results reveal that the awareness of Chinese English learners' employment of CSs is still in the beginning stage and their strategic competence needs improving. Thus, at the end of the paper, the author of the tresis also makes some suggestions about how to improve learners' strategic competence.
