The Usage Of CF Marked Theme In Academic Genre

This paper aims to make a comparative analysis of the usage of CF marked theme based on English and Chinese academic genre (represented by linguistic writings).On the basis of Halliday's thematic theory, through quantitative and qualitative research, the statistics to the distribution of CF Marked Theme in different parts of an article will be done in order to achieve this goal. And with the help of the statistics, a comparative analysis on the usage of CF marked theme in and between English and Chinese academic genre (represented by linguistic writing) will be achieved so as to explore the similarities and peculiarities between them.The statistics of the data mainly shows: the usage of CF Marked Theme is helpful to expressions of the discourse functions, however the usage of CF Marked Theme is restricted by discourse functions at the same time;English academic genre employs more CF Marked Theme that indicate connection and argumentation, so we should pay more attention to cohesion and theoretic quality in English academic writing;the number of CF Marked Theme in Chinese academic genre is evidently more than that in English academic genre. Besides the differences caused by function expression of genre, another important factor causing this phenomenon is the internal difference in the English and Chinese sentence structures.
