Strategies Of Metaphor Translation In Classical Chinese Poetry From Perspective Of Culture

Metaphor has aroused more and more interests in different fields. It witnesses more than two thousand years of development in which there appeared various theories. The function of metaphor is also evolved from an ornament of language to, a kind of human thinking modes and cognitive means instead of a rhetorical device merely. In the 1970s it has advanced into a multi-discipline subject. Nevertheless, metaphor translation has received much less attention.Poetry is a sea of metaphors, which is, of course, no exception to classical Chinese poetry. The classical Chinese poetry, as a most shining flower in the world of culture treasure-house, is the gem of Chinese language and crystallization of its culture. With the development of globalization and the deepening of cross-cultural communication between China and the west countries,it is necessary to introduce classical Chinese poetry to foreign readers. However, due to great cultural differences between different countries, though persistent endeavors by many experts, the study of translation theory of classical Chinese poetry has a long way to go, let alone that of metaphor translation.On the basis of discussion of metaphor theories, dealing with interaction of language, culture and translation, translation of the classical Chinese poetry from the perspective of culture, giving emphasis to the analysis of the theoretical issue of the metaphor translation in classical Chinese poetry, the thesis raises strategies of metaphor translation in classical Chinese poetry from perspective of culture, that is, preserving the original image, converting the original image, abandoning the original image, expected to be conducive to the practice and theory of translation of metaphor and classical Chinese poetry.
