Many works are concerned about humor analysis in perspective of discourse analysis. To sum up there are five different theories: Cooperative Principle, Relevant Theory, Presupposition, Reference and Speech Act Theory (CP, RT, P, R, and SA are used as abbreviations). This study aims to find out the power differences of the five theories in explaining humors through both qualitative and quantitative methods, to show which is the most often used and has the strongest power of analyzing.Five groups of different types of humors are used in this study. They are 73 humors about parents and children, the first 100 humors from a famous TV series "Friends", 67 humors about lovers, 61 humors provided by the web named "ShiBo English", and 65 humors about campus. All these humors are daily talks, which mean they happen in our daily lives. (To make the research true and representative, the author surfs the internet and find the humor resources.)Through comparative analysis, three findings are obtained. 1. In the five theories of discourse analysis, cooperative principle is the most often used one in explaining humors and has the strongest power of analyzing. 2. In the five groups of humors, cooperative principle accounts the biggest percentage in the humors from "Friends". 3. In the four maxims of cooperative principle, the maxim of quantity is more often violated to cause humors.
