Since 1994 when Nichropnd coined the term "digital survival", a "digital revolution" has been sweeping the whole world. With the help of ever-changing modern communication technology, the vision-centered system of graphic is now challenging the traditional language-centered system of communication. The age of visual culture communication symbolizes not only the cultural transformation, the breakthrough in the field of aesthetics and the reconstruction of human relationships but also the emergence of a new communication concept. What is more, it symbolizes the change of human thinking way. With the development over the recent years, graphic communication has become a new interdisciplinary science combining scientific technology, economy, culture and art as well as a tremendous creative industry against the background of economic globalization.Under this circumstance, a research on the trend of graphic communication in digital age is theoretically as well as practically valuable. On one hand, the old communication theory must adjust to the development of communication technology and the change of communication form. At the same time, the old design theory must adapt to the change with the age. On the other hand, new communication and design practice call upon the initiation and development of its theory. As a result, new questions are raised for the research on communication study and design theory as well as design education.Graphic communication is a new form of communication involving both communication and design. The research on the development trend of graphic communication in digital age includes two parts: (1) The research on its present situation and history;(2) The prospect for its development trend.The research on the trend of graphic communication in digital age aims to: keep up with its latest development and correspondingly updating the design ideology and thinking way and hence strengthen creative ability;obtain information about its dynamic development and predict the direction of its development;explore the law of graphic communication by studying the phenomena and conduct the graphic communication meaningfully and effectively so as to enhance the communication among people and societies and ultimately promote civilization of human beings.Guided by systematic theory and employing an interdisciplinary and cooperative research method, this paper combines theory study and practice conduction. On the basis of communication theory, this paper explores the effectiveways and the development trend of graphic communication in digital age by researching on the basic law, phenomena, characteristics, modes and customers.This paper is initiative in the research on the development trend of graphic communication in digital age for the following reasons 1) It manages to construct the graphic communication mode in digital age;2) It emphasizes on the efficient interaction of graphic communication in digital age;3) It studies the demand of customers and manages to meet the need of customers. 4) It puts forward the cultural strategy for graphic communication — communicating the future and breaking through the intellectuals.The development of design raises new questions for designers. As the subject of creative graphic work, visual designers must re-orient themselves and cultivate their systematic thinking way. Only by achieving this can they creatively design refined visual work by employing information technology. Only by achieving this can they combine art design with the demand of people and society and finally undertake the new communivating commission on the information highway.
