In the history of ethical film, following Eisenstein,Tarkovsky is honoured the mostoutstanding director of the former Soviet Union;In the history of global film, associating withFellini and Bergman, Tarkovsky is honoured the Trinity of Modern Art Cinema, they havebrought Art Cinema to a climax that nobody can exceed.The main achievements of Tarkovsky are his philosophical film content, the concept of"sculpting in time" and the style of Poetic Cinema. The three parts are keys to Tarkovsky'sfilm world .Tarkovsky was hunting after life and final value during his whole life. His film is a set ofthematic variations around life;The core of Tarkovsky's concept is "movie time". Headvanced the theory of "sculpting in time", which was his contribution to the theory of worldfilm;Recalled the development of "Poetic Cinema" of the former Soviet Union, analysedTarkovsky's style of "Poetic Cinema", we could see clearly that as the greatest director ofPoetic Cinema, Tarkovsky had developed the typical style of Russian ethical film to theclimax.To sum up, during his lifetime, Tarkovsky was striving for cinema being an independentart as literature and drama, for director being film auteur that can be recorded in culturalhistory of humanity. He found the direction of the development of ethical film, and gavepatterns to the global Art Cinema .
