The National South-West Associated University (hereinafter referred to as the " NSWAU " ), formed in Yunnan Province during the War of Resistance Against Japan, was a combination of Tsinghua University, Pecking University and Nankai University. Although the 8-year-long war had given enormous destroy to China's politics, economy and culture, the Chinese people made many achievements in the adversities of War-the NSWAU was just one of the many. The NSWAU, restricted with insufficient fund and facilities, successfully brought up more than 3,000 graduates in its 8-year-long history. Of those graduates, many became outstanding scholars and experts, including the Nobel Prize winners, in a diversity of areas, such as education, science, technology, culture, economy, politics, and so on. This article makes a preliminary analysis to the successful management experience of NSWAU, which include (I) a very clear guidance strategy-the "General Education", (II) an advanced management mode-professors-dominated management team, democratic and fully optimizing the resource and, (III) a stress to the ideological education of students-complete regulations and attention to practical and comprehensive abilities of students. As to the reasons why NSWAU achieved such great success in the hard time of war, the article also gives an analysis: (I) the NSWAU was a combination of the three renowned universities which represent the highest level of higher education in China, (II) the NSWAU attained more favor and support from both the central and local governments, and especially from the governor of Yunnan Province, Mr. Long Yun, who played a critical role in the development of NSWAU, (III) the NSWAU had an excellent and disinterested management team, an excellent faculty of teachers , and an excellent student resource. When the War was ended, the three universities all returned to the North, and therefore the NSWAU was terminated and became a historical noun. However, it leaves a lot of useful enlightenments to the later generation: the well-known professors gave classes to undergraduates, the university helped with the local cultural and educationdevelopment by utilization of its intelligence and human resources, the "General Education" strategy, the efficient management of universities, and so on. Just as mentioned by a foreign scholar, "The history of NSWAU will be remembered andrecommended by the academia all over the world......and the tradition and practice ofNSWAU is a precious heritage to China and the rest of the world".
