Before the imperial court restores the old order by House of Bourbon, Antoine-Jean Gros (1771-1835 ) is Napoleon's hired painter, his early life and create and know by people.Among 1814-1816 years, Napoleon is banished, the imperial court restores the old order by House of Bourbon, David leave France, These have exerted a great influence on life of Gros. Gros's development as an artist would have been inconceivable without the continual discussions he had with his teacher Jacques-Louis David (1748-1825), on whom he grew increasingly dependent. David advise doses of Luo go picture real" history paint", and entrusted Gros with the running of his large studio When David was forced to go into exile in Brussels in 1816. He has accepted the advice, have give up the creation of the military subject matter works, has changed his style. He has exhibited two works on the salon, this has proved his transition in 1822.This text analyzes one among them in chapter two and chapter three emphatically. A lot of researchers think ,after Napoleon is banished, gros's ability disappeared , but in fact, his creativity is kept by 1822 at least. A detailed analysis of the painting Bacchus and Ariadne thus reveals a complex and subtle structure. Few of Gros's contemporaries were able to understand and appreciate his attempt to capture the "fertile moment" of this mythological love scene. Furthermore, a study of the traditional artistic treatment of this subject shows that Gros has introduced a psychological dimension into his picture which is lacking in paintings from earlier centuries. David dies from Brussels in 1825, this makes him lose the spiritual pillar . At the same time, the critic was more and more severe to his works, no matter the camp of romanticism person's camp or classicism person, existence treating him coldly. In 1830, Louis Phiri Pu's painting ordering the exhibition to be related to Napoleon, he hopes this can bring a good luck to him, but he is disappointed . It was the dichotomy between Romanticism and Classicism which, as Delacroix so keenly observed, was the source of Gros's tragedy. It is only natural that he became increasingly sensitive to criticism, finally reaching the conclusion that suicide was the only satisfactory solution.
