The cognitive action of individuals always switches among different tasks.People finish switch tasks slower than they finish repeating tasks, and the rate ofmaking mistakes is often high. The difference is called switch cost. At presenttask-cueing paradigm is mostly used in the research of task switch.Repeat trials andnon-switch trials are both unpredictable in this paradigm. There will be some cueshinting at the type of tasks which will be executed before or when every targetstimulus appears. It is widely proved that non-temporal task has interference effects onduration judgment in the dual task paradigm of time and non-time.Besides ,Brown andsome other researchers studies the interference effects of duration judgment onnon-temporal task. The logical hypothesis of bidirectional interference effect is : if theprocess of two tasks needs the same cognitive resource, the operation with two tasksgoing at the same time will produce bidirectional interference effect. It is testified insome recent researches that the effects of duration judgment on different non-temporaltask are not totally the same but asymmetrical interference ones, and there appeardirectional interference effects between duration judgment and non-temporal task.According to the hypothesis mentioned above, the basic logical operation will be takenas non-temporal task in my research . And the participant will be asked to finish dualtask Paradigm of prospective short-duration judgment. The score will be comparedwith that of non-temporal single task and with physical time. Therefore experiment 1and 2 just discuss interference effect of different directions respectively. The results ofexperiment 1 testify that there are significant interference effects of task switch onduration judgment. And the results of experiment 2 testify that there are bothinterference effects and bidirectional interference effects of duration judgment on taskswitch. We can conclude that prospective short-duration judgment and task switch inthe rule-activating stage compete for the same process resources and they both needcontrolled-process of internal attention. Besides, we can discover by analyzing theresults of experiment 1 that the process of the basic logical operation has no effects onthe score of duration judgment and prospective short-duration judgment is notautomatic process which need external attention resources.
