Jing Kang Incident inspired the lofty patriotic sentiments of poets of the early and middleSouthern Song Dynasty and saw the prosperity of anti-Jin works. As an influentialrepresentative of the poets fleeing to south China, Chen Liang's Ci were highly original whilehe followed Jia Xuan in ideology, artistic pursuits and aesthetic tastes. Under the abnormalsocial Circumstances, Chen Liang following the mandate of heaven and complying with thepopular whishes of people, consistently adhere to the claim for recovering territory anduniting the whole country again. Although his life was full of frustrations, he stuck to hisbelief and showed a positive and noble cultural personality. This thesis expands from three aspects on Long Chuan Ci: The introduction gave a brief outline on the social Circumstances in which Chen Lianglived, his ideology and political ideas and shed light on the research of Long Chuan since thebeginning of the 20th century. The first chapter discussed in detail the contributions of Chen Liang in Ci ideology fromfour aspects---stimulating entity consciousness and uniting Ci quality and moral quality;putting Ci above poets and holding Ci in esteem;expressing practical feelings, and promotingthe functions of Ci;putting vigor first and coupling hardness with softness in style. The second chapter probed into the gist of Long Chuan Ci. From creative point of view,Long chuan Ci was divided into the following five categories, which are vehement politicalCi;original Ci chanting objects;fresh and practical Ci to offer birthday congratulations;graceful and restrained love poems in a flowery style and melancholy but not decadent Ci ofhomesickness. The classification above showed clearly that Chen Liang's works were not justas rugged as some people had long been misunderstanding. Lyric poems comprised acomparatively high proportion of his works and his straightforward poems were not justimitating Jia Xuan's style. The third chapter discussed the cultural personality expressed in Chen Liang's works bycomparing the differences of Chen Liang and Jia Xuan in optimistic outlooks on life, sentimental life experiences and Ci chanting objects.
