A Study On The Speech Act Of Apology In Chinese

The speech act of apology communication is an important part of the speech communication. As a complex phenomenon of language, the speech act of apology is effected by multiple factors. In this article, by way of questionnaire conducted, based on a quantitative analysis of Chinese language data, we conduct a more comprehensive study on the speech act of apology from the Chinese language's reality. According to the survey project, we have prepared two kinds of questionnaires---closed and open,a total of four. Our investigation target is more than 400 Chinese undergraduates from three universities. This paper focuses on the four factors impacting the speech act of apology---the social distance between participants, the relative power between participants, the gender factor and the degree of the offence. In this study, we first design the survey questionnaire in accordance with the objectives, and then make a targeted statistics, at last analysis the statistical data and inspect objectively its causes. In this process, we should not adhere to the predecessors of research results, but tap new perspective, then resulting in the Chinese language own characteristics and new trends on the speech act of apology.On the basis of statistical analysis to the survey conducted, we have the following conclusions:1 : About the relevance between the speech act of apology and the social distance between participants, the relative power between participants.Through the findings of the statistics and analysis, we find that:the basic evaluating position to the social distance between participants is consistent, slightly different.
