The present study investigates native language transfer in Chinese college students' second language vocabulary acquisition. A thorough review of literature in relevant theories and empirical studies leads to the assumptions: Enough frequency of input and proper and timely correction is able to facilitate learner's second language vocabulary acquisition more effectively. An empirical study on the relative effectiveness of connectionism-model teaching method is conducted among 60 Chinese first-year university students learning English as a second language. The optimal condition for the study is satisfied. Moreover, there is only one variation to the optimal condition in this study, that is, connectionism-model teaching method is practiced among 30 subjects in the Experimental Group, while the traditional teaching method continues to be applied in Control Group of other 30 subjects. Therefore, any difference between EG and CG will be attributed to the efficacy of the connectionism-model teaching method as designed instruction contrast.
