As a young nation consisting of various immigrants, Canada is with the characteristics of multiethnic and cultural pluralism. During her more than one hundred years' developing process, Canada has gained a lot of valuable experience in ethnic integration and cultural retention and her policy of multiculturalism has highly evaluated by experts and scholars in many countries. The thesis, from the perspective of Canadian multiculturalism, elaborates on the influence of this policy on Chinese Canadian immigrants. The assignment of this thesis goes into five sections. Section One is an introduction briefing the contents and significance of Canadian multiculturalism so as to elicit the practical points of writing the paper. Section Two is the literature review which reviews the literature of multiculturalism and Chinese Canadian immigrants home and abroad from past to present. Section Three makes an analysis of the theoretical foundations which underpin some important and influential elements on immigrants. Section Four is the key to the thesis. In this section, the paper analyzes the specific experiences and contributions of Chinese Canadian immigrants before and after multiculturalism as well as the phenomenon of racism encountered by early Chinese immigrants. At the same time this section expresses the great changes experienced by Chinese immigrants after the adoption of multiculturalism. As to the specific experience of Chinese Canadian women, the writer has singled out one chapter to express in Section Five, admitting the significant meaning of multiculturalism to Chinese Canadian women. Section Six is the conclusion of this thesis. This section sums up the self-evident significance of immigration both to China and Canada and emphasizes the special meaning and contribution of multiculturalism for countries in the world while solving problems caused by globalization.
