This thesis attempts to explore the translation of tourist materials from cultranslation perspective and make a contrastive analysis between English tourist publications and the English versions of some tourist materials in China so as to detect their different features. Both theoretical viewpoints and practical examples are presented for intensive analysis, the purpose of which is to put forward the principle and criteria of the translation of tourist materials in China. In addition, some appropriate strategies for translators are listed in the hope of shedding light on the translation of tourist materials in China. This thesis deals with the following issues.Chapter One is a retrospection of the development of cultranslation. It introduces some important theorists who have made great contribution to the theory and some of their viewpoints are also mentioned.Chapter Two expounds the theory of cultranslation which approaches translation from cultural perspective and consists five integral parts.Chapter Three is focused on the study of cultural tourism and tourist materials, including the relationship between tourism and culture, cultural differences reflected in tourism, literary features and purpose of tourist materials in China.Chapter Four makes a contrastive analysis between English tourism publications and English versions of tourist materials in China so as to detect the different features of the two kinds of tourism English and to find some reasons for the improper cultural translation in tourist materials.The last chapter puts forward the principles and criteria of the translation of tourist materials in China from cultranslation perspective and some strategies are proposed.
