This report is based on the translation of a series of UK tourist publicity materials assigned to me by a translation company. The focus of this report is to study how Christiane Nord’s function plus loyalty principle can help the translator improve the quality of the target texts. Before the translation practice, the translation brief was listed according to Nord’s text analysis model, so as to figure out the intended functions of the target texts, and then both intratextual and extratextual factors of the source texts were analyzed to make out the functions of the source texts. Besides, difficulties met in the translation process were summed up, including translation of proper nouns, terms, adjectives and rhetoric devices. During the translation practice, the translator endeavored to be loyal to the intention of the sender and realized identical functions in the target texts by applying various techniques, so that potential receivers could acquire identical information and obtain an equal reading experience. Under the guidance of Christiane Nord’s text analysis model, target texts carrying concordant communicative functions with that of the source texts were produced. Therefore, Christiane Nord’s function plus loyalty principle can help the translator to improve the quality of the target texts.
