Decoration painting used to be considered as a subordinate type to designation or painting, and be shallow and lack of aestheticism to be a type of art. At present time, in the circumstance of multiplicity and globalization, art form is in the tendency of variation. Decoration painting emerges with harmonious and merging aesthetics and merges the Eastern and Western painting, the tradition and the modern style. Decoration painting displays its strong characteristics and special art value in the contemporary time.The essay at first discusses the origin of decoration painting so as to classify it from modernist painting, modern designation and logo by nature. Then, the essay contests the subject language of decoration painting from three perspectives: the first perspective is the changing language, namely the changing component elements. Decoration painting makes use of various elements such as structure, color, shape and materials to form an imagined and invisible aesthetic illusion. The second is the aesthetic grammar, namely the rule of formal beauty. The rule includes formulation and order. Formulation is the character of local collective aesthetics, which is composed in a historical process. The decoration paintings differs each other in different geographic areas. The stability of formulation will means the stiffness of decoration painting. The order of decoration painting reveals the order of things in the nature with art and reflects their property and discipline. The formal beauty is the derivative of formulation and order. The nature of decoration painting is aesthetic and formal beauty. The third is mean sentence, namely the various means of presentation. Rich and changing language and variable skills compose different orders, transferring different messages and producing comprehensive and variously used means. At last, the essay is going to in details discuss the importance and the necessity to insist on subjective language in painting and teaching to meet the demand of cultural circumstance of globalization, multiplicity, postmodernism and the tendency of harmony and mean. Therefore, the teaching should sticks to the contemporary conception of decoration painting to help student get used to its language, gram and sentence, to fulfill the understanding of its aesthetic consciousness, to obtain knowledge and inspiration from other art forms. The following three ways can reach this purpose: 1) learning and research the traditional and others schools in the world; 2) further the exploration and exploitation of current sources; and 3) refresh mode of conceptions with multiple and leaping ways.
