| In order to meet the requirements of the rapid expanding and fast growing ofmodern international shipping industry, the International Maritime Organization (IMO)carried out an all-around revision of "Standards of Training, Certification andWatchkeeping for Seafarers 1978" (STCW convention) in 1995, which has especiallyemphasized "the communication (i.e. foreign language competence) among themultinational crew". Marine Engineering English (MEE) is the vocational languageused by the engineering staff on board ocean going vessels in dealing with the marineengineering business. The achievement of MEE teaching directly affects the trainingquality of engineering officers. This thesis takes the error analysis (EA) theory as abasis, systematically analyzes and studies the errors made by vocational collegestudents in MEE learning process, discusses the MEE teacher's error-correctingstrategies, and investigates the countermeasures to be taken in MEE teaching, in thehope of applying the study to practice to predict the difficulties that learners may meetin the MEE learning and try to respond in the MEE teaching so as to avoid or reduceoccurrences of the errors, aiming high to promote the MEE teaching reform invocation colleges of our country.The thesis is divided into seven chapters, including introduction, theory survey, presentation of MEE and its current teaching and learning situation in vocational colleges in China, the specific analysis on MEE errors and teaching countermeasures, and conclusion.Chapter One is the introduction part that mainly introduces the purpose and the significance of this study.Chapter Two is the introduction of EA theory.
