This dissertation focuses on the condition of adverbs during east-han dynasty through the enveloped description of the adverbs in wangchong's philosophical sutra Lunheng. And through the description and analysis of all parts of speeches which each adverb presents in Lunheng to study the distinction and relationship between adverb and other parts of speeches. It also researches the developmental processes and the semantic or syntactic mechanisms of adverbs by comparing the adverbs of Lunheng with the adverbs of ancient times and mediaeval times.There was some progress on the study of adverbs recently. Especially the introduction and utilization of "grmmaticalization" has made a good prospect for the study of adverbs. Some scholars have done some useful exploration in this field. But totally speaking, the foundation of adverb studying is still thin. Till now, some basic issues of adverbs just as the character and the scope of the adverbs or the sub-categories are still under discussion.Lunheng is a great philosophical sutra of Chinese ancientry. The author is Wangchong(A.D.27-? ) in est-han dynasty. In Chinese language history est-han dynasty is an important interim. It has some 200,000 words and the language is plain, which offers a good material to language research.According to the diversity of syntactic function, the adverbs in Lunheng can be divided into 3 sub-categories: descriptive adverb, restrictive adverb and annotative adverb.
