To most of the Chinese college students, vocabulary is the main problem met in the process of learning English. The present study attempts to investigate Chinese non-English major students'vocabulary learning beliefs and strategies by means of a questionnaire, a vocabulary test and interviews. The subjects are 238 non-English major students from North China Electric Power University. Both similarities and differences of the employment of vocabulary learning strategies between different pairs of students (the advanced and weak, the male and female, freshmen and sophomores) are explored as well. A correlation study is also conducted between the students'vocabulary learning strategies and their vocabulary test scores. The pedagogical implications of this study are suggested for college teachers'instructions of strategies and learners adaptation of strategies in various learning stages。...
