Since 1970 s,many foreign researchers gradually focused their attention on how to optimize learning strategies to improve learners' vocabulary learning efficiency and enlarge their vocabulary size.Similar research in China began 1980 s,most of which is about relevant theory introduction and research subjects are mainly aimed at college students.Based on the investigation and training of vocabulary learning strategies,the paper attempts to answer the following questions:(1)What is the general situation of high school students' vocabulary learning strategy use in minority areas?(2)Are there any differences between students from experimental class and control class in the use of vocabulary learning strategies?(3)What is the relation between vocabulary learning strategies and students' learning achievements?In order to carry out English vocabulary instruction effectively,with reference to the former research,the author designed the questionnaire and interview.Students' vocabulary learning strategies are investigated at meta cognitive,cognitive and social/affective levels.By using SPSS22.0,the analyses of the data revealed that the overall use of vocabulary learning strategies was in medium frequency.Based on the result of the study,the author conducted a vocabulary instruction experiment,which is aimed to research into the influence of vocabulary learning strategies on English achievements,under the guidance of cognitive theory,constructive theory,elaboration theory and the requirement of senior English Curriculum Standards.The two classes(class 15 and class 16)taught by the writer are respectively set as experimental class and control class.The experiment is mainly adopting comparison between the two classes.Those students in the experiment class are trained with some basic vocabulary learning strategies and meanwhile a series of vocabulary teaching strategies are widely used in instruction in order to motivate students' learning interest,optimize learning strategies,and develop self-constructive capability.The result of the experiment shows that compared with students in control class,students in experimental class use different vocabulary learning strategies and they got higher English scores after training.At the same time,according to the study and experiment results,it is obvious that English vocabulary learning is a complicated process,which is influenced by various factors.However,learning strategy is one of the most important one.Thus it is crucial and timely to give senior high school students vocabulary learning strategy training because it meets senior students' needs and conforms to their psychological characteristics;and students like and have capability of having strategy training.What counts is that vocabulary learning strategy training is an vital way of cultivating students' self-reliant ability and overall quality;and also it clearly reflects the teaching reform.Therefore current English teachers have to undertake the responsibility to carry out vocabulary learning strategy training.
