Sen Li was a famous writer with his own peculiar style in the modern literature circle in China. Among more than fifty years of his writing life, the styles of his work in different periods are in variance with the changes of social environment. Most critic studies on Sen Li only concentrate on the surface analysis on the phenomenon of his style transition, but lack a thoroughful investigation on the Sen Li's Literature thought. In fact, his writing style transition in different periods reflects the consistancy and coherence of his literature idea. Therefore, it is very important to carry out a research on Sen Li's literature thought. This dissertation, starting from the perspective of the idea of retiring from the literature circle which always exists in his mind, carrys out a conprehensive analysis on the two "stopping writing events" during his writing life, and concludes his individual characteristic of Sen Li's literature thought.The dissertation consists of three chapters except the introduction and conclusion parts.Introduction part gives a brief explanation on the hypothesis that Sen Li's secular idea orginates from his his individual characteristic of Sen Li's literature thought.Chapter One develops an analysis on Sen Li's "stopping writing event" in 1956, and points out that this time he stopped writing for his serious disease. When Sen Li nearly finished his creation on Biographies of a Carpenter and a Smithn in 1956, he suddenly had a serious neurasthenia and had stopped writing for near ten years. Sen Li had confessed that the disease was caused by the spiritual pressure for a long time. In fact, his creation had fallen into a dillema after the establishment of the People of Republic China in 1949. This partly caused by his insistance of his peculiar idea on human nature; and partly caused for his deviation from the mainstream political requirements on the aspect of relationship between literature and politics.
