A Study On Mulan Legend Of Yu Cheng

Mulan legend has extensively gone around in Yu Cheng area of Shang Qiu, and it has unique significance for folk-custom life of culture. Recent years, culture of Mulan is flourishing, and research on it is more and more active. Relatively saying, Mulan legend has not been paid enough attention. The legend of Mulan has a long history. There are different opinion about Mulan's family name, hometown and nationality. Each one sticks to his own argument, until now, Mulan legend of Yu Cheng has its own unique content. This study use the texts to make a description of Mulan legend's development, mainly use the plots of the birth of Mulan and the death of Mulan to describe the process of Mulan legend's development at Yu Cheng, to explore the influence which Mulan legend has in the local belief. Author unites Mulan legend into some basic plots in the way of narratology. The aim of this dissertation is to investigate Mulan legend from the angle of texts plots and belief, and then to point out its character and significance.The essay is displayed in five chapters:The first part is about the present situation of research on Mulan legend. When the scholars of past ages made a study of Mulan legend, the materials which their research depend on are no more than local chronicles, historic sites, local legends and historical records in literature. Because every district has its own materials, no scholar can convince others of his opinion. Nowadays scholars tend to study the meaning of Mulan poem; few explore what influence Mulan culture made on the local belief.The second part is about the spread of Mulan legend in every district.(1)the controversy that Mulan Poem aroused.
