Academy, as a special educational form and academic research unit in ancient China, played particular roles in the history of Chinese education, thought and culture. There were a lot of researches on the academy, including many works written by our ancestors, and the researches of periodical regionality. But there was no work which put Fujian academies in Song Dynasty as a research on whole. In Song Dynasty, the academies greatly promoted the development of Fujian education, and the prosperity of academic thought. Whether from the angle of discovering the local history and culture, or from the aim of advancing the regional education, the condition of Fujian academies in Song Dynasty, and its relationship with local culture are worth our researching.This thesis is divided into five chapters.Chapter One, Prolusion: At the beginning, it introduces the developing survey of the academies, from its appearance in Tang Dynasty to the Five Dynasties, North and South Song Dynasties, and Yuan, Ming, Qing Dynasties. Then it summarizes the general situation of the ancestors' research on academies. I divide the research articles and works into seven types: the principle and history, periodical research, regional research, periodical regionality , case study, and the relative problems. This thesis refers to the fourth type—periodical regionality research. And next it introduces the reason the significance for this research title. At last, it illustrates some standards in this thesis from the limits of time, region, and the definition of Academy.Chapter Two, Distinguishing the false Fujian Academies in Song Dynasty: It mainly refers to the academies in the List of Academies in the Past Dynasties ( Appendix3 in the History of Academies in China edited by Li Guojun) and the list of "Fujian Academies in Song Dynasty" ( from Dictionary of Chinese Academies edited by Ji Xiaofeng). And it distinguishes carefully from the so called academies which were not real ones in regard to their characters. According to the concrete conditions, this thesis divides the false Fujian academies of Song Dynasty, listed by Li and Ji by mistake into several types, as following: 1. place of studying; 2. place of sacrifice; 3. place of studying and sacrifice; 4. place of publication; 5.
