The Study On The Address Expressions In Red Mansion Dream

Chen Yiping , who wrote a book entitled A Survey on the Address Expressions in Red Mansion Dream makes a special contrition to the research of Red Mansion Dream. Based on Chen's survey, this thesis is intended to broaden the scale of the study on the address expressions in Red Mansion Dream and tries to abstract the regularity on this aspect through specific research. The whole thesis consists of the following 5 parts :Firstly, the preface of the thesis provides a theoretical definition of the address expressions.Secondly, the second part of the thesis provides a further classification of the address expressions in the sense of politeness.Thirdly, based on the second part, the third part illustrates specificaly the selection of the address expressions and the rules governing the selection.Fourthly, the fourth part of the thesis illustrates the characteristics of the address expressions by comparing vertically the address expressions in Red Mansion Dream with those used in Tang Dynasty and those from Standard Chinese.Finally, the last part of the thesis is a exploratory survey on some synonymous address expressions.This thesis enriches the research on the address expressions in Red Mansion Dream and illustrates its relationship with culture.May this thesis provides something valuable to the research on Red Mansion Dream and the language used in Qing Dynasty.
