Studies that have been done on Caoyu's works, focusing on the female characters in his early works have become the important issues in 1990s. Among the various discussions on female characters in Thunder Storm, an agreement has been worked out on Fanqi by the scholars, that is, her pursuit of love and freedom sparks the consciousness of female main body. But the scholars failed to see eye to eye on another two females. Confined to their traditionalism, most of the scholars are ignorant of their life awareness and spirit of main body. In this thesis, the writer will take this as a cut-in point to explore richness and vividness of the female feeling world, thus believe this is an arena to advocate the vitality of the female.The thesis is composed of three chapters. In the first chapter, upon the analysis of individual characters, we can see that positive stance to life and awareness of main body find full expression on the three females, therefore demonstrating that Thunder Storm is a novel to encourage the vitality of the female from the reversed point. Chapter Two provides the background of the modern history of literature, upon that the writer makes a comparison between other male's texts and Caoyu's others texts, and concludes that what the novel wants to exhibit to us is the strong expression for women, which is also the reason contributing to the uniqueness at that time. In the third chapter, attention given to the reasons that cause its uniqueness from the angle of the text itself and writing main body respectively. In addition, in the parts of introduction and conclusion, the writer generalizes literary review, the purpose of the thesis and the room for improvement.To sum up, all the female characters in Thunder Storm have finished their understandings on the strength and beauty of life by their own actions, which are closely related to the writer's appreciation on life at the special time.
