ShenTao, who was the scholar living in the JiaQing and DaoGuang ages of Qing Dynasty, made the textual criticism as the pillar of his academic research which was improved by his hobby in the epigraphy research and wrote a great deal of exquisite works. The four books essays of the TongYundou studio, collected writings of Se pavilion, pen jottings of JiaoCui veranda and notes of ChaiPi pavilion included a lot of clauses and sub-clauses based on textual research and involved many social science disciplines. Those works formulated his own ideas and paid less attention to the view points of the authority; Based on the reasonable citation of the history materials and textual researches, ShenTao had raised a bunch of views which were very original and creative in his ages. Meanwhile, his pen jottings kept a pile of customs and habits records of different places which supplied the very first-hand and precious raw materials in the late Folklore research. The pen jottings of ShenTao's which had a high science value in the academic research were an embodiment of his learning accomplishment.This paper takes the biographical notes of ShenTao's as a cut-in point to launch the demonstration. It focuses more on his pen jottings than the life stuffs and makes a systematic textual research and further analysis. Through the discussion, the paper reveals the contribution of Shentao's on the researches of study of Confucian, historiography, epigraphy, folklore and literature and makes a positive evaluation on his ways and ideas using in the research which extended to the textual research in the Confucian works and history combined with the study of epigraphy. On the other hand, the paper summarizes the method that ShenTao has used.
