The Modal Particles Of Tangnan Dialect In Nanchang County, Jiangxi Province

Tangnan dialect is subordinate to Nanchang dialect. According to the final of a syllable. The peculiarity of pronunciations of modal particles in Tangnan dialect is that some of modal particles are beyond the phonetic system of the Tangnan dialect and that some of modal particles cound take great changes in contonation due to the influence from the syllables before them. The article detailedly describes 22 kinds of modal particles which are commonly used in Tangnan dialect. Some modal particles which mainly correspond to Mandarin can be found,while some can't; though some modal particles can share same word form as that of Mandarin,the meaning and usage aren't identical. In order to indicate the features of modal particles and establish the system of modal particles,this essay discusses mainly three aspects:l) the respective pronunciations of modal particles and their corresponding rules of tone changes; 2)the relevant description on system of modal particles; 3)the description of the varied meaning and use of every modal particle in the light of phonetic sequence including the analysis of the tiny differences of close modal particles as possble as I can;and the comparison and analysis of interrogative modal particles between Tangnan dialent and Mandarin, manifesting their syntantic funtion in the relevant interrogative structure.
